Rail enthusiasts were thrilled to see The Flying Scotsman, the world’s most famous locomotive, pass through Watford yesterday (June 18).
Built in 1923, it was the first steam locomotive to hit 100mph, and once ran between London and Edinburgh.
It passed through Platform Eight at Watford Junction station on its way to a tour of the Lake District.
However some onlookers said they were disappointed in that the train was “double-headed” and that the lead engine was the former LMS railways "Black Five" 4-6-0 locomotive, rather than the Flying Scotsman.
Rail enthusiasts also saw the Union Of South Africa steam locomotive, built in 1937, pass through Watford on June 14 on route to take charge of the Cotswold Venturer tour The engine is a sister of the World-famous steam-speed world record holder Mallard.
