A grandfather who has Parkinson's Disease says he felt humiliated when he was left naked and tilted upside down on a hospital bed in view of the other patients and visitors.

Stewart Jones was admitted to Watford General Hospital's Winyard Ward for a urinary tract infection, but claims the experience was like "torture."

The 74-year-old said he was left with nothing on his bed, without the curtains being drawn, after nurses gave him a bed bath.

They also "prized his walking stick from his hands" so he could not get out of bed, he claims.

"I was lying there with nothing on, and my head was tilted downwards," he claims. "The curtains weren't drawn properly so other patients and nurses could see me.

"It was like torture."

He says the only reason he didn’t fall out of the bed was because of the bars at either side.

It happened on May 28 at around 3pm, he claims.

Mr Jones, who has a printing company with his wife, is now making a complaint to Watford General Hospital about the way he was treated.

He was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, which causes tremors and rigidity, ten years ago and struggles to speak properly as a result.

It means he falls often, sometimes ending up in hospital.

His wife says she has been "quite upset" by what happened.

She added: "It's made him more afraid to go to hospital. He has a lot of anxiety over what happened."

Mr Jones now say he will make a complaint to the NHS Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS).

Chief nurse Tracey Carter said: “I’m very concerned about the complaints that Mr Jones has raised and I have passed these to our safeguarding team who will launch a thorough investigation. I’m sorry that Mr Jones feels that he did not receive the standard of care to which he is entitled.”
