A fight left a man in hospital and another in police custody.

Police were called at 1.34am today to reports of a fight between two men in Essex Road, Watford.

During the fight, one man in his 40s received a neck injury and had to be taken to hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Police closed off the street.

A 39-year-old from Watford was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody.

Detective Inspector Vickie Coleman said: “I would like to reassure you that we believe this is an isolated incident involving two people who are known to each other.

“A scene guard will remain in place at the address while initial enquiries are conducted to establish the exact circumstances that led to the incident."
