An appreciation society for the late pop icon George Michael raised more than a £1,000 for charity.

Members of the George Michael Appreciation Society held an event for the Terrence Higgins Trust.

Joined by tribute act Wayne Dilks, the evening at Bushey Sports Club in Aldenham Road raised £1,065. It was attended by more than 200 people.

It was in recognition of what would have been George’s 55th birthday on June 25.

Tracey Wills from the society said: “Everyone came together to celebrate the birthday of George Michael and the atmosphere was fantastic, everyone was up singing and dancing and Wayne stepped into the crowd to greet people personally.

“Wayne even did a personal tribute to a lady who had recently lost her father. A raffle was held during the interval which Wayne drew the first ticket and one of his biggest fans won the first prize.

“After the show I had people stopping me to say how much they had thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and Wayne has promised to make it an annual event for Bushey.”

The Terrence Higgins Trust is a national charity that campaigns and provides services relating to HIV and sexual health.
