Postal workers will stage two 48-hour national strikes next month - only adding to Watford's mail woes.

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) will protest over pay and Royal Mail's modernisation plans. The strikes will take place on October 5 and 6 and October 8 and 9 and will cause even further disruption at Watford's troubled sorting office in Ascot Road.Royal Mail has condemned the strike action and criticised the CWU for "failing during seven months of talks to produce any serious proposals that could help resolve the issues that lie between us and move the business forward".A Royal Mail statement said: "It is clear from our discussions that the CWU leadership does not begin to understand the challenges facing Royal Mail and the very serious consequences for the business if we do not push ahead and modernise."However Dave Ward, deputy general secretary of the CWU, said: "Despite five weeks of negotiations Royal Mail have failed to take on board the union's message that in order for the business to succeed Royal Mail need to invest in their workforce."Strikes are a proportionate response to an employer that is completely out of control. Rather than running the business, Royal Mail's actions demonstrate they are intent on destroying it."To comment on the latest plans to strike, and share your views as to how they could affect the services in Watford, fill out the form below.
