A keen sportsman will be embarking on a 100-mile charity bike ride to help people with learning disabilities.

Dad-of-two David Vizard, 53, from Rickmansworth, will take part in the Ride 100 from London to Surrey and back before returning to the capital on the final weekend of July for in aid of Watford Mencap.

But he is no stranger to setting himself a challenge on two wheels having cycled from London to Paris in 24 hours, as well as taking on the Swiss Alps.

He said: “Watford Mencap do some fantastic work fantastic work helping people with learning disabilities and their families to live happy lives.

“They need to raise funds to continue offering the support which they provide, and when they asked if I would like to enter Ride London 100 I jumped at the chance.”

Watford Observer:

Mr Vizard says he is ready for his latest challenge after having taken part in several triathlons as well as the Great North Run. Last month he took part in the Royal Windsor Olympic Triathlon. And he believes a good breakfast of porridge will put him in good stead on the day of the ride.

Mr Vizard came across the work of Watford Mencap when he ran last year’s Marshall Vizard Makeover competition, where the estate agents asked people in Watford to nominate worthy recipients to win a property makeover.

The winning entry came from Watford Mencap who urgently needed a makeover of the lounges in one of its care homes.
