Mayor Taylor’s aspirations are laudable (Boris bikes and ‘Uber’ buses to get town moving, Observer, June 29). In the coming days he needs to implement and embody his bold plans, building on the success of his predecessor. The high street is the order of a mile in length and could benefit from a park and ride scheme.
Look back: Mayor reflects on first 50 days
Cycling is surely something the new mayor would want to encourage both for its eco-friendliness but also for its other health benefits and population density. Each bike ridden is a car off the road. Facilities are in place but demand has outstripped supply and there are simply not enough cycle lock-ups. Signs indicating shared cycle pedestrian space seem to have disappeared. These need to be reinstated to clarify the area is still for bike use.
If the council is serious about honouring its green credentials then it needs to do more to promote electric vehicles, including making available more charging points.
Never mind the Croxley Rail link for now. How about a complimentary train carting people the length of the high street?
