The Watford Observer cot appeal is going from strength to strength.

In just a month, more than half of the target has been raised.

Maternity staff at Katherine ward in Watford General Hospital appealed for help to replace its 30-year-old cots with newer ones.

Companies and people across the town have come forward to sponsor cots and more than £7,000 has been raised. They aim to have 26 new cots.

The latest company to sponsor a cot are Tucker French, which has sponsored two.

The plumbing and heating merchants said it wanted to support people in the area.

Andy Tucker said: “We are a local company with links to the hospital. This is the perfect way of helping them and we jumped at the chance to do so.”

Health care assistant Jacqueline Fitzsimons says she is “more than overwhelmed” by the response from people in Watford, adding she was “astounded” at the progress in a month.”
