A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder after a teenager died following an incident in Watford.

Police were called to The Avenue at 9.50pm on Tuesday following reports of a disturbance where a man in his late teens was found with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital where he later died.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested and later charged with murder.

The Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit is investigating the incident.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is due to appear at Hatfield Remand Court today (Thursday).

Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins from the BCH Major Crime Unit said: “Our thoughts are with those affected by the incident at this difficult time. I would like to reassure members of the community that we have been conducting thorough enquiries into what happened and believe this to be an isolated incident.

“The family have requested that their privacy is respected at this time.”

The Avenue was closed for much of the day on Wednesday. A witness reported seeing a forensic tent outside a property. A cordon was in place between Stratford Road and Alexandra Road.
