Pictures show the aftermath of a devastating fire which destroyed the roof of a laundry factory during the night.

A fire broke out at the Cottage Linen factory in Rhodes Way just off Colonial Way in Watford at around midnight.

Watford Observer:

The fire service said it received at least 37 calls from concerned members of the public as the fire took hold and flames began lighting up the sky.

Videos taken at the scene show the factory in flames as 70 firefighters battled to put out the fire.

Smoke was seen billowing from the factory across the town with some reporting they could smell burning from parts of West Watford.

The fire is now out but crews remain on the industrial estate to damp down the embers and a police cordon is in place.

There are no reports of any injuries.

Staff at the factory, which has 60 employees, were stood outside waiting this morning for further details. One of the management team said she was called at midnight to reports of the fire.

There was clear damage to the side of the building and an open door showed there was damage inside the factory too.
