Video has been released that gives a tantalising glimpse inside the new intu centre.

The footage combines drone footage of the current construction site, side-by-side with computer animation of how the centre will look when it is finished.

Some parts of the centre are still under construction but others, like the futuristic escalators look impressively similar to the video.

The animation also shows how some historic buildings have been incorporated into the new structure.

Vicki Costello, general manager at intu Watford, said: “We are edging closer to completing our £180 million development and the latest drone footage gives a small behind-the-scenes insight into the scale of what we are bringing to Watford.

“The recent announcement that Debenhams will open on Thursday, September 27 is another exciting milestone, which will shortly be followed by other retailers, restaurants and, of course, the Cineworld and Hollywood Bowl.

“We hope people enjoy the footage and that it inspires them to come and discover the new intu Watford for themselves, it will be worth it.”

The extension of the existing centre will cost £180 million, with a £13 million makeover.

Debenhams, Jack Wills and Superdry will be among shops opening in the expanded centre, alongside a nine screen IMAX Cineworld cinema, Hollywood Bowl, a climbing wall and bars and restaurants such as TGI Friday, Yo Sushi and The Florist.

The centre is due to be finished in January 2019.
