Workers have reported road rage and delays of an hour to leave a business park after a nearby road was shut for roadworks.

A driver who works in Centennial Park in Elstree says it has been “chaos” for the past two days due to the closure of Watford Road, which will remain closed for a month.

As a result of the closure, motorists have to use Elstree Hill South in the direction of Borehamwood and Radlett, an already heavily congested route. Unfortunately, it has had a detrimental effect on people working in the business park who have been trapped while cars queue on the roundabout at the exit of the park.

Alice Howard said it took her an hour to leave the business park yesterday and the place has become a “car park”.

Watford Observer:

She said: “It is chaos, like being on the M25. There are hundreds and hundreds of cars that use this site and we are not being allowed to flow out onto the roundabout.

“The ‘keep clear’ signs are being ignored. I’ve seen people swearing, shouting, and beeping. It’s a stressful time for everybody.”

“I understand the need for these works but I just want to see some traffic management on the roundabout.”

Ms Howard, who leaves the park and turns right towards the A41, is appealing for drivers to be more “considerate” if they are on the main road, and says she is not alone in her frustrations.

Watford Observer:

UK Power Networks have shut Watford Road until August 30 so it can install underground electricity cables.

The company has apologised for the impact of the “essential” works. It said it has already set up signs two weeks in advance and organised diversions.

A spokeswoman added: “We will now add extra signs reminding motorists particularly at the Centennial Park roundabout to observe the ‘keep clear’ signs, to preserve exit routes from the business park and help keep traffic flowing.”
