An MP was ”greeted by wagging tails” from dogs looking for new owners.

Finchley and Golders Green representative, Mike Freer, visited Dogs Trust West London on Thursday.

Mr Freer was given a tour of the rehoming centre based in Harvil Road, Harefield, and met many dogs including a greyhound called Arnold.

Following the visit, Mr Freer said: “I enjoyed my visit to the Dogs Trust rehoming centre in Harefield.

“It was fantastic to see the wonderful efforts of staff who work so tirelessly to ensure that all of the dogs in their care are incredibly well looked after."

Mr Freer was impressed by the facilities available to the dogs and learned about how the organisation rehomed unwanted dogs in London.

He added: “I particularly enjoyed meeting Arnold the Greyhound – I would have liked to adopt him but settled for sponsoring a dog instead.”

Dogs Trust West London’s supporter relations officer Irene Anidjah said: “We were delighted to welcome Mike to our rehoming centre and it was a great opportunity to show him the work we do for the dogs in our care – all of which were on their best behaviour.

“Like all of us at Dogs Trust, it was great to hear that Mike cares so deeply about animal welfare and it was a fantastic opportunity to discuss key dog welfare issues that we feel so strongly about."

Ms Anidjah said that a pressing health concern for dogs is overbreeding, leading to exaggerated features such as flat faces, narrowed nostrils, skin folds and protruding eyes.

Last year the rehoming centre found owners for 653 dogs and rehomed nearly 400 dogs this year.
