A father has described the moment a moped robber jabbed a “machete” towards his stomach before snatching his £10,000 watch.

The victim was standing in Glenhaven Avenue, near the junction of Shenley Road in Borehamwood, on one of the hottest days of the year, when two men on a bike raced towards him.

The man, aged in his late 20s and does not want to be named, saw the balaclava-clad men jump off the bike before one pinned the bike up against him whilst the other took a large knife, believed to have been more than a foot long, and pushed it towards his stomach.

The man holding the knife screamed ‘Give me your watch’ and the victim handed over the £10,000 silver Rolex.

A month later, the victim is still shaken by the incident, which happened on Thursday, July 19 at 11.30am.

He said: “It’s really scary and it was over in seconds really. I’d seen the bike going up and down the high street and I had just finished a phone call.

“I could feel this knife towards my stomach and when they asked for the watch, I did think twice. But then I thought, no that’s stupid. I have a young daughter, so I just handed it over.”

The moped robbers fled, racing down Shenley Road towards oncoming traffic, reportedly nearly crashing into a father crossing the road with a double buggy.

They were last seen flying down Furzehill Road.

Police arrived within a couple of minutes but did not chase. The robbers were dressed in black and while one had white skin, the victim did not get a look at the attackers’ faces.

Both were wearing helmets.

The victim, who was not injured, is now appealing for people to be as vigilant as possible so that what happened to him isn’t repeated.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Police claim the robbery involved a kitchen knife; however the victim disputes this and believes it was a machete or a large industrial knife.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen what happened to come forward.
