A hospice which needs to raise money in the wake of NHS cuts has been given a cheque for almost £8,000.

Fundraisers, Watford Support Group, visited Peace Hospice Care in Peace Drive, Watford, to present a cheque for £7,971 on July 20.

According to the hospice, £5 million is required to keep providing its services for free after NHS cutbacks.

The group raised the money in a fashion show, a 60s night and a park music event.

Speaking from the Watford Support Group, Dan Holden said: “We want to do as much as we can to give back and to support Peace Hospice Care.

“I’ve seen first-hand the fantastic care they provide, and it makes such a difference.

“It’s more important than ever that we get behind them and raise as much money as we can, especially given the cuts to their NHS funding.”

Tracey Bravo, community fundraising manager at Peace Hospice Care, said: “We are so grateful to Dan and all the members of the Watford Support Group.

“They are so committed to raising funds for us, and their efforts really will make a big difference.

“It’s only because of the efforts of the community, that we can do what we do – supporting those people in our community with life-limiting illnesses, as well as their families and carers, who need our help.

“We are so grateful.”

The next fundraising event planned by the group is a Charity Dinner and Dance on November 23 at Hunton Park Hotel in Essex Lane, Watford.
