A pub in Northwood has been granted a new licence despite residents' objections.

The Reindeer in Maxwell Road, has been closed since June, when its licensee became insolvent, but will now re-open.

The new application, made in August, generated 48 letters of objection from residents.

Colin Harris, 69, chairman of the Northwood Residents' Association, said: "It is not in keeping with the area to have a pub closing time of 12.20am.

"The Reindeer is in the middle of a residential area and the residents have found the area is much quieter since the premises has been closed.

"The pub has not had a good reputation over the years and has been the source of much complaint from residents."

Generally the objections focused on long opening hours resulting in anti-social behaviour, drunkeness and fights on the streets surrounding the pub.

But sergeant Paul Ratcliffe of the Northwood Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "As a public house, The Reindeer has in recent times been no better or worse than any others in Hillingdon."

The application is to be granted subject to a reduction in opening hours.

The pub will not be allowed to remain open later than 11pm.

And under the agreement CCTV must also be installed in the entrance and exits to the building and in the car park.

The CCTV system must remain on for at least one hour after the pub has closed.

The beer garden is also to close early for the prevention of public nuisance.
