A WOOD Green pub that was the scene of a murder last month is set to make a fresh start.

A shooting during a hip-hop night at the Litten Tree pub in Lymington Avenue, Wood Green, on April 19, led to the death of 20-year-old Jade Alleyne.

However, the pub owners are preparing to overhaul several aspects of the pub's operation.

The pub is getting ready for some radical changes in the coming months, which were discussed at a meeting between Haringey police officials and the SFI Group plc, which owns the Litten Tree chain of pubs.

The meeting, which was described by police as very positive, led to decisions on several changes to the future running of the Litten Tree.

These developments were:

A new DJ will be employed immediately and the style of music played will change from hip-hop to soft pop, to attract a different sort of clientele, especially on Friday nights

The pub will be renamed the Wood Green Tavern

A new manager will be appointed

Four door supervisors will be employed immediately and will be equipped with metal detectors, to identify firearms

A 'no drugs' policy will be proactively enforced inside the pub, and the venue has also pledged to be fully co-operative with the Haringey Council and police anti-violence agreement strategy.

Borough Commander Stephen James said: "Haringey police are very much working in partnership with the venue owners, who are keen to ensure that this pub returns to being a safe and friendly place to visit for all the community."

The murder investigation is also advancing and this week a police spokesman said: "The enquiry is progressing and a number of individuals have been charged with offences related to the killing."
