Fire crews used a mixture of brute force and intelligence to rescue two cows from a canal this afternoon (Sunday).
The cows waded into the Grand Union Canal by Bridge Road, Hunton Bridge, earlier today, two of them becoming trapped in the water.
Members of the RSPCA joined fire crews from Garston and Kings Langley and a specialist boat team from Hatfield for the lengthy rescue.
Lee Bishop, Sub Officer from Garston Fire Station said: "We had to half lasso the cows to get ropes around them and herd them out of the canal.
"It needed a lot of sweat, thinking and brute force but it was definitely interesting."
The cows are thought to have escaped from the field borders around the canal.
