Fairer deal for gay police

12:53pm Tuesday 15th January 2008

Gay and lesbian police officers in Hertfordshire are now getting a fairer deal.

The force has just been placed 59th in Stonewall's Workplace Equality Index.

Stonewall campaigns for equality and justice for lesbians, gay men and bi-sexuals.

The force's lead officer for "sexual orientation" said: "Getting a place on the index is seen as a key measure of an organisation's commitment to supporting gay staff and gaining such a high place speaks volumes for the measures we have put in place to ensure a positive working environment for gay colleagues."

Deputy Chief Constable Simon Parr added: "This shows that we are now much better placed to interact effectively and engender trust and confidence among our diverse communities across Hertfordshire."
