A table tennis club based in Watford is set for a financial boost, after receiving a grant for more than £6,000.

Watford Jets will extend sessions held at Queens School, in Aldenham Road, Bushey, and also provide its members with more tables, bats, balls and a practice robot, following the award of £6,876 from the Local Network Fund - an initiative resulting from the government's Every Child Matters strategy.

Stuart Seaholme, the club chairman, said: "We are delighted to receive this grant. The equipment is fantastic and we have two qualified coaches helping the youngsters to improve. We have also been able to run two holiday coaching courses."

The Local Network Fund enables voluntary and community groups to develop projects and activities for young people with limited opportunities.

Over the next year, more than £400,000 is available to groups in Hertfordshire. For more information, write to the Hertfordshire Community Foundation, Sylvia Adams House, 24 The Common, Hatfield, AL10 0NB.
