Work is underway to tackle a problem verge that can turn into “a mud bath” when drivers park their cars on it.
Grasscrete is being laid on two sections in Oxhey Drive, South Oxhey, and it is expected to finish at the end of the week.
The changes are being brought in after residents complained to councillor Christopher Alley about mud spilling onto the footpath from the parking.
Cllr Alley said: “It is worse during winter and autumn, and it can end up looking like a mud bath.
“People say it makes the area look bad.
“With the mud on the footpath it is also a health hazard because it is slippery.”
The work, which started yesterday (June 6), is costing around £13,000, which the councillor is paying from his Highways Locality Budget.

He added: “I would love to keep the grass, but the road has a lot of parking issues and people need to park their cars.”
The verge is being resurfaced with Grasscrete, which offers a concrete surface for cars to park on and allows grass to grow through holes.
Cllr Alley plans to have other sections of the grass verges changed later in the year.
