A village church could be set for a residential conversion, according to a property listing.
Chipperfield Baptist Church in The Street, which had its final service on February 18 before closing on February 24, is now on the market with a £850,000 guide price.
According to the property description on the brochure: “The property is considered to have potential for residential conversion, subject to consents.
- Closed community centre could see rebuild with flats above it
- Town High Street flats plan submitted in 2021 given planning go-ahead
- Met Office predicts when summer weather will return in Watford
“Alternatively, it could be used for religious, community or educational purposes.
“Please note that burials are believed to have taken place on the site in the past and the building may be built over a former burial site.”
The church building is in a conservation area and is locally listed. According to conservation area documents, it is believed to have been built in 1837 and has late 19th century alterations.
Former members of the congregation have described fond memories of the “lovely” church.
It had closed due to there being “simply not enough of us to continue running the church” and other ways forward being “ruled out”, according to a notice published in Chipperfield News at the time.
