A school is set to gain new places at a temporary location ahead of a permanent move to a new site.
Plans to extend the provision at Breakspeare School, in Gallows Hill Lane, Abbots Langley, by 48 places were discussed by Hertfordshire County Council’s cabinet yesterday (September 18).
Once the full relocation is complete, in time for the 2025/2026 school year, Breakspeare School will be able to offer provision to 210 children with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) at a new site in Croxley Green.

But in the meantime, from January 2024, a satellite location at Holywell Primary School, Watford, will take the provision from 97 to 145, after the plan was green-lit at yesterday’s meeting.
Hertfordshire councillor Caroline Clapper, who is responsible for education, highlighted the 560 extra special school places that have been created in Hertfordshire since September 2018, but added that "we know that the need for new places continues to rise".
The new school is due to be built at the former Durrants School playing field in Manor Way.
A smaller number of extra places for the school have already been created from September 2023, at another satellite at Meadow Wood Special School in Bushey.
