A car that was on fire in Bushey is not linked to a recent spate of arson attacks, police have confirmed.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 12.35pm on Sunday to reports of a Vauxhall Zafira “well alight” on Hartspring Lane.

Garston station sent one fire engine to the scene, as firefighters closed off the road as they tackled the blaze.

Police confirmed it was started accidentally and is not being treated as arson or connected to the previous incidents.

The fire was put out by 1pm, and there were no reported injuries or arrests.

The incident comes after police announced they were hunting arsonists behind a string of attacks in north Watford last month.

Three cars were set alight in just three days: two in Sheepcot Lane and York Way on February 24 and another in Amwell Close on February 26.

Sergeant Dave Elgy urged anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour or has information that could assist police to contact them on the following references:

  • Sheepcot Lane: 41/15657/24
  • York Way: 41/15862/24
  • Amwell Close: 41/16096/24
