Road safety funding award

A road safety group has been allocated a £27,000 budget for road management measures.

Church Hill Residents Against Speeding Harrassment (CHRASH) was set up two years ago by residents of Church Hill and surrounding areas.

At a meeting held last week, representatives of CHRASH met with Hertfordshire Highways, councillors Joy Mann, Paul Goggins and Geoff Emery and the original budget of £15,000 was increased to £27,000.

Jan Smith, chairman of CHRASH, said: “This is just the start and those of you who live along the Bedmond Road towards Abbots Langley and in the other direction to Leverstock Green will be pleased to know that part of the consultation was for the concerns of the road along its full length.

“A number of suggestions were put forward including a change of speed limits from Abbots Langley mini roundabout through to Leverstock Green Church. We will have more on this when we have news from Hertfordshire Highways.”

Last Thursday a scooter ended up by the front door of Hugh McCormick-Ball’s house in Church Hill.

He said: “The rider had very serious injuries, it was awful.

“By about 9.30pm this road turns into a race track, they speed through.

“Only last night a couple drove by at about 70 mph, I do try to wave at them to slow down, but it really does not make any difference.”

In May, a car crashed into Hugh’s front garden, demolishing a wall.
