RAINBOW Guides from across Watford united today to celebrate 21 years of the movement.

Around 25 girls, aged five to seven, from units in Cassiobury Park, West Watford and Nascot Wood donned traditional uniform and gathered at St Luke's Church, Langley Way in Cassiobury Park for a party.

Rainbow leader Elizabeth Harland said: "Now we are coming towards the end of the 21st year we thought we would go out with a bang by throwing our district party.

"It's very special to us; it's quite rare to be able to get the whole of the district together and for the girls to mix and realise they're part of a much bigger organisation."

The ceremony, which lasted from 2pm until 4pm, boasted a jam packed programme of various activities including bracelet crafting using different colours to reflect different moods, building mascots from vegetables, and physical games such as volleyball and pat ball.

Those who completed all the challenges successfully were awarded an Aim High badge to add to their collecton of merits.

Six-year-old Millie Ward of Parkside Drive, Cassiobury Park, who has been a part of the Rainbows for just under two years, was hoping to add to her already thriving collection of eight badges.

The birthday celebrations were also marked with a huge cake, which sat pretty until the end when the hungry group devoured it.
