A 16 YEAR-OLD has been arrested and released on police bail in connection with the death of Paul Smith, the Moor Park dentist and senior church warden who died in a hit-and-run road accident on Saturday, June 7.

Paul Smith, 51, was travelling on his blue Yamaha R1 motorcycle north along Rickmansworth Road, Pinner, at 10am when he was involved in a collision with a silver Ford Focus, coming in the opposite direction, as it was turning into Crossway.

Mr Smith, a devout Christian and senior church warden who owned Woodlands Orthodontic Surgery in Woodlands, North Harrow, suffered serious head injuries in the smash and died at scene.

However, the driver of the Ford, described only as being a white male, wearing a white T-shirt, abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

PC Jerry Fretter of Alperton Traffic Garage, which is investigating the accident, said: "I can confirm that a 16 year-old boy attended Harrow Police station on June 9.

"He was immediately arrested and interviewed before being released on police bail to re-appear at the station on September 10, pending further enquiries.

"So far we have had several new witnesses come forward so at the moment we are just piecing it all together to work exactly what happened that day."

Mr Smith's funeral took place at the Emmanuel Church in the Old High Street, Northwood, on Friday. More than a 100 people packed out the church to pay their last respects.

Witnesses, or anyone with information, are asked to call 020 8246 9850.
