The organisation responsible for bringing children's centres to Hertsmere has assured residents that Bushey is not being left behind.

Hertsmere Leisure and Hertfordshire County Council have recently opened Sure Start centres in Borehamwood and Potters Bar and are currently researching suitable venues in the village.

These venues could include the Genesis Housing Group-run Hartspring Hall, surrounded by regular criticism of its opening times and facilities, and the Falconer Youth and Community Centre where a temporary service is currently being offered.

The finished children's centres provide services for mothers and young children including parenting workshops, information and activities.

Liz Applin, Hertsmere Leisure's Children's Centre Director, said a consultation would begin early next year, the result of which will be announced at a conference on May 13.

She said: “We want people to know we are taking action. We are committed to moving things forward with the county council as soon as we can.”

She added that some money was available for building work but this would probably be used on small extensions to current buildings.

All the centres planned for the borough need to be completed by March 2010.

The Top Tots sessions at the Falconer Youth and Community Centre, in Falconer Road, take place twice a week during term time. On Tuesdays between 10.30am and 11.15am and Wednesdays between 1pm and 1.45pm.
