Motorists are being urged to take extra care on the roads this weekend as temperatures are expected to drop dramatically with snow spells forecast for Saturday night.

Gritters are being rolled out on the county's roads as the cold snap sets in.

Hertfordshire County Councillor Stuart Pile, said: "Current weather forecasts indicate a cold snap for the next week, so our gritters are ready to act as soon as reports indicate that road temperatures are dropping.

"Road users are advised take extra care in these weather conditions."

The cold weather is expected to continue until Thursday next week, with downpours forecast for this evening and snow likely to settle tomorrow night.

Ooh… thanks Stuart! I’m soo… stupid that I need Hertfordshire County Council to tell me that it’s getting colder. I’m glad that you and your gritters are primed and ready to swing into action at a moments notice. I’m sure you and your men have had a good team talk with plenty of ‘high-fives’ all around. I’ll bet you’ve been planning for this since July!

“This is it men – the big one! Get out there and grit! Grit or die! The school run depends on us! Our mission is to keep Hertfordshire citizenry safe”

Be warned, No 1 Company, SAS commando gritters will tear around the streets of Watford tonight at 40 mph spraying any nearby traffic with rock salt and tail-gating anyone who strays into their path. This is what happened in early October when we had the last snow flurry.

By the way Stuart, ‘gritter’ isn’t an OED word. The closest I can find is ‘grittier’.

Barts, saddly some people do need the warnings - and others choose to not heed them hence the tragic accident on the A41 on Saturday night.

I've had my car sprayed a number of times by gritters and it is annoying but i'd rather that than not stop at a junction or whatever when applying the brakes due to ice.
