Motorists are being urged to take extra care on the roads this weekend as temperatures are expected to drop dramatically with snow spells forecast for Saturday night.
Gritters are being rolled out on the county's roads as the cold snap sets in.
Hertfordshire County Councillor Stuart Pile, said: "Current weather forecasts indicate a cold snap for the next week, so our gritters are ready to act as soon as reports indicate that road temperatures are dropping.
"Road users are advised take extra care in these weather conditions."
The cold weather is expected to continue until Thursday next week, with downpours forecast for this evening and snow likely to settle tomorrow night.
