The West Herts Crematorium has been named the best in the country.
The popular Garston funeral site has won the Crematorium of the Year Award, in recognition of its service to the local community.
The nationwide competition, organised by the Memorial Awareness Board, aims to raise standards in burial grounds and crematoria and encourage better choice for the bereaved.
The Award, now in its 11th year, recognises crematoria that provide excellent service, have well maintained surroundings and are easily accessible for all.
The facility is run by a joint committee from Three Rivers, Dacorum, Hertsmere, and Watford Borough councils, supported by St Albans City and District Council.
It was warmly praised by judges.
Their report read: “Clearly there is an excellent management team encouraging the development of skills for all their staff.
“Over the years the buildings have clearly been sympathetically developed to meet today's requirements.
“These provide a superb facility that embraces excellent provision of service and care."
Crematorium Manager Stephen Brown said: "Staff are extremely proud.
“We have a fantastic team of dedicated people here, which has enabled the Crematorium to grow and develop to deliver a first class service.”
