THE MUCH opposed proposed closure of Leavesden Green School came under scrutiny from central government this week after Watford MP Claire Ward opened an adjournment debate in the House of Commons.
The debate took place at around 10.40pm on Monday evening and followed directly after the contentious dispute as to whether to impose a ban on hunting.
The local MP was given around 20 minutes in which to present her speech detailing the proposed closure of the primary school in High Road, Leavesden, which Hertfordshire County Council attributes in the main to its surplus of places.
Her speech elaborated on that which she made at a consultation meeting held at the school on Tuesday, June 24 and included key arguments highlighted by the school's opposing action group as well as underlining inconsistancies in the figures used to justify the proposal.
