A raft of new traffic restrictions moved a step closer last night when councillors again discussed problem parking in Rickmansworth.

Three Rivers District Council announced in March plans to prevent dangerous and inconsiderate parking at key sites across the town.

A formal three week public consultation on the scheme was carried out in October but did not, the council says, allow for sufficient feedback on the precise details of the plans.

At a meeting of its ruling Executive Committee last night the council decided to write again to all affected residents.

The proposed restrictions, to be implemented in the New Year, will consist of double yellow lines, waiting restrictions, and an extension to the existing permit scheme.

They are:

  • Restrictions on Mount View at its junctions with Elm Way and Moneyhill Road to prevent dangerous and inconsiderate parking
  • Restrictions in Elm Way to prevent inconsiderate and dangerous parking
  • Restrictions to prevent commuter parking along Highfield Way up to its junction with Beacon Way. A weekday restriction has been proposed
  • Restrictions at the lower end of Pheasants Way to prevent dangerous parking at its junction with West Way
  • Extend the existing restrictions along Shepherds Way to its junction with Berry Way to deter commuter and inconsiderate parking
  • Restrictions at The Drive to prevent commuter and dangerous parking past the junction with Winchfield Way as far as PNEU School
  • Restrictions to be considered in Old Chorleywood Road to prevent commuter parking
  • Restriction to prevent all day commuter parking in the Moor Lane slip road
  • Restrictions at Sherfield Avenue to prevent parking at the junction with Harefield Road
  • Further restrictions at Rickmansworth Park JMI School access road – no waiting between 2pm – 3pm and 10 – 11am

The restrictions will be enforced by existing contractor Vinci – which also manages parking restrictions in Watford – under the terms of the Road Traffic Act.

Council Leader Ann Shaw said the authority was taking the unusual action of re-consulting to allow as many people as possible to have their say.

Although the results will not carry the same legal power as the official consultation, the responses will be used to finalise the details of the scheme.

She said: “We are not in the habit of forcing these schemes on people if they don’t want them so we want people to be happy with any restrictions we implement.”

All these restrictions to prevent commuter parking!! where are all these commuters coming from to park their cars in these areas then walking to Ricky station? instead of restricting and banning things when will people in charge of authorities realise they must address the problem not the symptom, the problem being in this case lack of affordable car parking for commuters, with the credit crunch biting people will be looking at every avenue to cut costs including parking slightly further than these restrictions so they can park for free, by introducing parking restrictions in the proposed places it will just push the problem further afield unless they want to restrict the whole area? Waitrose at Ricky should never of been granted planning permission instead a dedicated subsidised car park should of been put there instead. but i suppose on the other hand the council can earn a fortune out of the people who visit locals and have no choice but to park on the restrictions.

What valid reason would you suggest for stopping the Waitrose Planning application. Don't waste your time there wasn't one. Perhaps Crazyfrog should think before he actually says something.
PS the Three Rivers Council do not actually make anything from parking revenues. Any money raised just pays for the Wardens. You can look it up on their website. Also all of the proposals were requested by the residents. You can look that up too.

If you think things around the area of proposed parking restrictions is bad now, wait until the M25 widening starts! Double yellow lines, dropped curbs, and residents parking zones mean nothing to at least one business down here in Mill End, which parks its vans all day every day along Uxbridge Road and sidestreets, choking traffic flow and blocking footpaths. Amazing how one rogue business can spoil it for everybody else. Don't just sit and moan. Call the police; contact the council. Stand up for your rights or you'll have to pay more to have it done for you.

Radar, better still take a photo of the infringement and send it to the Police and also the Council. Peter.kerr@threerive
rs.gov.uk. He will pass it on to Vinci who oversee Parking control.
The Company you refer to is definitely situated in the wrong location, pressure could make them move.
