A raft of new traffic restrictions moved a step closer last night when councillors again discussed problem parking in Rickmansworth.

Three Rivers District Council announced in March plans to prevent dangerous and inconsiderate parking at key sites across the town.

A formal three week public consultation on the scheme was carried out in October but did not, the council says, allow for sufficient feedback on the precise details of the plans.

At a meeting of its ruling Executive Committee last night the council decided to write again to all affected residents.

The proposed restrictions, to be implemented in the New Year, will consist of double yellow lines, waiting restrictions, and an extension to the existing permit scheme.

They are:

The restrictions will be enforced by existing contractor Vinci – which also manages parking restrictions in Watford – under the terms of the Road Traffic Act.

Council Leader Ann Shaw said the authority was taking the unusual action of re-consulting to allow as many people as possible to have their say.

Although the results will not carry the same legal power as the official consultation, the responses will be used to finalise the details of the scheme.

She said: “We are not in the habit of forcing these schemes on people if they don’t want them so we want people to be happy with any restrictions we implement.”
