SCORES of new streetlights are to be installed in Watford, it was announced this week.

Hertfordshire County Council will spend more than £52,000 on fitting 66 lights throughout the borough over the next two months.

Forty areas are set to benefit including Brett Place in Leggatts, Newlands Walk in Woodside, The Gossamers in Meriden and Watford Field Road in the town centre.

Many of the lights will be put into alleyways that are currently unlit.

The chairman of he joint Watford Hertfordshire Highways panel welcomed the announcement.

County councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst said it would "help eliminate the blackholes in the town".

Earlier this year, the county council was heavily criticised for failing to repair publicly reported faults within its five-day deadline.

To report a fault, telephone 01923 471 320 or log onto www.hertsdirect.org/highwayfaults.
