A colourful dance troop and head-spinning break dancers began settling into their new home at a Watford school this afternoon, by giving a series of energetic performances for parents and guests.

Dancers, teachers and parents from the Aviv Dance Studios celebrated moving into their new surroundings, at Watford Grammar School for Boys, by watching a string of dance performances.

The dance school, which was set up more than five years ago will now make use of the studios at the Rickmansworth Road school, teaching there seven days a week.

Nikki Avron, founder and principal of the studio, said: “We were based in central Watford but the rent was getting high and and then this opportunity came up and to be able to utilise facilities like this with a dance school like mine is just fantastic.”

Aviv, a dance studio that teaches young children as well as professional dancers, will move into the school full-time and will also move all its teaching there.

They will be based in the sports facilities in the school, opened just over a year ago, and will use the mirrored dance studios.

Nikki added: “It means the parents can bring their children here safely, they can park and not only do we benefit from using the dance studio there is a gym here, there are proper changing facilities, they can have a shower so it is a really comfortable place for the students, parents and the adults members.”

Among the invited guests were Martin Post, headteacher at Watford Boys, and Councillor Tony Poole.

Also moving will be the Ground Breakiers break dance group, run by Zak Bin. The group was set up six years ago and has been affiliated with Aviv for the past three years.

Zak said: “The facilities here are a lot newer, we have access to crash mats and things like we didn't have before so it will be good.”

The group teaches dancers from the age of just four up to 40. And Zack says break dancing is a great way for young kids to get fit.

Zak added: “You would not believe the number of people who have come here and have been over weight and you just think there will be no way they will be able to balance on their head or do a handstand and after just a couple of weeks they have lost weight and are doing really well.”
