MUSLIMS in Watford are celebrating after the Watford Mosque and Welfare Association became one of the first religious organisations in the UK to be presented with a prestigious Queen's Golden Jubilee Award.

The group, based at Watford Jamia Mosque in Cambridge Road, was one of only a handful of voluntary groups to receive the honour, which recognises the achievements of organisations who work to improve the quality of life for local communities.

Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Mr Simon Bowes-Lyons, presented the award at a special function at North Watford Mosque on Thursday, September 4, which was attended by mosque trustees and other local dignitaries including Watford MP Claire Ward and former Watford MP Lord Tristan Garel-Jones.
