A PAINTING of historic Cassiobury House in Watford is the latest artwork to be displayed in an online archive dedicated to bringing the work of famed artist Turner to a wider audience.
The view of the south west front of the stately home by Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851) is currently on display at Watford Museum.
But art-lovers worldwide can now view it after the picture was added to the Tate Gallery's new online catalogue of more than 2,000 works by the popular painter. It can be viewed at www.tate.org.uk The picture was painted some time during 1806 to 1807.
At the moment this painting is part of Watford Museum’s story of Cassiobury Park, which includes A View of Cassiobury Park, the painting that made a dramatic return home from the United States of America after locals campaigned to raise the cash to buy it.
This 1748 painting by artist John Wootton will now be on display at the museum until the end of September, due to popular demand.
The painting, which features the Third Earl of Essex and his family, friends and servant in the foreground, was due to go back into storage at the end of the summer.
But huge public interest means it will now stay to allow more people to see it.
