Volunteers at the Croxley House residential care home are hoping their recent hard work will entice some very special new visitors – barn owls.
Staff and residents, aided by a grant from Three Valleys Water, have installed a barn owl nesting box at the home in an attempt to boost the local population.
Owl expert Colin Shawyer has installed nesting boxes at sites all over the country.
He said: “Most of our boxes in Hertfordshire are either on Three Valleys Water sites or installed with funding from the company.
“Since we began working together 12 years ago, the numbers of barn owls has almost doubled to 30 pairs across the county.”
