Retailers claim CCTV made little difference

TEN weeks after the installation of CCTV in the problem area of Harcourt Road in Bushey, retailers are complaining that little has changed.

The portable CCTV camera is positioned opposite the parade of shops where shopkeepers and residents have suffered at the hands of gangs of youths.

It was purchased by the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership at a cost of £6,000 each and will remain at the parade for four months as a trial.

If there is criminal damage to a property, retailers can ask for the film to be reviewed.

All shopkeepers are issued with a number for the control room and if there is an ongoing problem, the area can be put under surveillance for a number of days.
