Haiku poems collide with Latin Mass at The Chiltern Choir’s next concert, which features two popular modern composers of choral music.
Karl Jenkins’ Requiem is the centrepiece of the concert, and offers a chance to hear an exciting version of the Latin Mass, which set for choir and orchestra. It includes a great variety of musical styles, from quietly lyrical to very fast and powerful. The words of the mass are interspersed with Japanese haiku, which are set in a more reflective style than the main pieces of the work. Accompanying the Requiem is Leonard Bernstein’s joyful setting of several psalms, known as the Chichester Psalms.
The concert will be held in the Chapel of the Royal Masonic School for Girls, Rickmansworth on Saturday, April 4 at 7.30pm. Tickets: 01923 774816, on the door or from Chorleywood Bookshop. (£6-£12)
