A PAIR of glittering diamante stilettos well-worn by popstar Geri Halliwell was just one of the items up for grabs at a 1970's-themed charity event in aid of Watford's Peace Hospice.

The disco and auction at the old Free School in Watford town centre saw more than 100 people don fancy dress and get down and boogie on Saturday night.

The event, which raised £5,700, was the brainchild of volunteer fundraiser and Peace Hospice Friends committee member Beth Devonshire-Oates, from Croxley.

Prizes for a raffle were donated by local businesses and the star lot in the auction was a pair of Geri Halliwell's favourite shoes, donated by the star's sister.

The tiny size three custom-made stilettos, which were encrusted in diamante and had obviously been much-loved by their owner, were snapped up for £300.

Ms Devonshire-Oates, said she was thrilled with the success of the event which she organised with the help of good friends Kim Heffernan, Maria Larkin and others.

The venue and drinks were donated by Helen and Mark Flesch, whose firm Retail Human Resources is based in the historic building.
