The Love Spuds: interviewed October 2003

The Love Spuds The Love Spuds

- Who is in the band?

The Love Spuds consists of seven people — Matt Wignall (vocals) Micheal Batey (lead guitar), Pod (bass guitar), Jon Saunders (drums), Andy Savage (trombone), Spawn (trumpet) and Johnny Paige (trumpet). We live in areas stretching from Erith to Dartford and some areas in between.

- When did you form?

We got together in September 1996.

- Where were you born?

There are far too many people in the band to answer that but thanks for asking. We range from our teens to our 20s.

- Describe your sound

Self-styled purveyors of “Skunk” Ska/Punk.

- Musical influences?

Influences are anything from Less than Jake to Chaz and Dave. Confused? ... You should be.

- Best gig?

The Mick Jagger Centre — lots of people, lots of running around and lots of hunnies ... mmmmmm.

- Worst gig?

The Standard Walthamstow. We were young and stupid — plus there was no-one there. Bad gig.

- Hopes and aspirations?

Like every other band out there we want to be filthy, stinking rich and throw a record deal in there for good measure.
