Commuters can look forward to a Bank Holiday weekend of rail strikes and tube closures in the coming three days.

On Sunday, train conductors will go on strike at Watford Junction in the latest episode in a long-running row with London Midland.

London Midland has vowed to run “100 per cent” of services this weekend, the first of eight consecutive planned Sunday strikes by the RMT Union.

The union has, however, claimed such confidence is ill-founded.

Last week it claimed The Sun's columnist and user of the line, John Gaunt, had described the impact as “massive” in his column, therefore backing the impact of the strikes.

Weekend misery is likely to be compounded by seven underground lines closing either completely or in part on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.

The Metropolitan Line will be suspended between Northwood and Chesham, Northwood and Amersham and between Watford and Northwood on all three days.

Three rail replacement services will be provided.
