BY-ELECTION: The Liberal Democrat control of Three Rivers District Council was reinforced as the party held the vacant Leavesden seat at yesterday's by-election.

The Lib Dem candidate Keith William won the seat comfortably with 857 votes.

The Conservative representative, Chris Hawes, came second with 369 votes, with Colin Gray, for the Labour Party, left in third place, with 128 votes.

The by-election was triggered after Sue Bartrick stepped down due to ill health.
