Funding has been secured to help transform a Bushey secondary school into a new academy.

Bushey Hall School, in London Road, will close in August and reopen immediately as The Bushey Academy, ready to welcome pupils in September.

Pupils currently at Bushey Hall will be automatically transferred to the Academy, which will specialise in business and communication, and are set to have a new uniform for the first day of term, bearing a new logo with the tagline “Proud to Belong”.

The Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families has now agreed to enter into a Funding Agreement with the Academy, to pay for some environmental improvement works throughout the summer ready for its opening.

New buildings are currently being designed and new, state of the art facilities are set to open in September 2012.

Andy Hemmings, principal designate at The Bushey Academy, said: “We have already worked extremely hard in planning and staffing a radically different institution and are pleased that the formal announcement of funding secures the transformational educational experience students can expect from September.”

David Meller, the Academy's lead sponsor, said: "It is great news that funding has now been secured for The Bushey Academy, meaning we’re now another step closer to opening in September."
