Young athletes were out training in the sunshine this week in preparation for the 23rd Bushey Quarter Marathon and fun run.

The event, part of the Bushey Festival, is sponsored by Spire Bushey Hospital and will raise money for the Peace Hospice in Watford.

Pupils from Bournehall School were busy preparing on Tuesday under the watchful eye of Watford Harrier and parent Jayne Turnley.

Ms Turnley said: “We usually win the trophy for having the largest school team but were beaten by Ashfield School last year. We are making every effort to regain the trophy and hopefully have some individual successes in the fun runs. The children have been training very hard and they deserve to be successful.”

Harry Goulding, who will compete in the under ten race, said: “I am running in the race because I like to run with my friends and also to get a medal!”

The Quarter Marathon is aimed at runners of all standards. All participants receive a medal and a base ball cap and there are team and individual prizes.

There is also a two mile run for those unable to tackle the Quarter Marathon.

Resident Bente Goulding said: ”I love running this event because it’s good to support the local community. I really appreciate all of the hard work that goes into the organising of the event.”

The event will take place on July 12 in King George Park in Bushey.

It’s not too late to enter. Entry forms available on www.busheyquartermara.ik.com.
