An Abbots Langley school will get a helping hand from a local supermarket after being named its charity of the year.

Customers and staff at Sainsbury’s in Watford will lend their support to Breakspeare School in Gallows Hill Lane.

The store will organise various fundraising activities throughout the year to help fund new equipment for the school’s sensory pool.

Deputy headteacher Caroline Day-Lewis said the school was ‘delighted’ to have been selected.

Mrs Day-Lewis said: “It is fantastic that we will have Sainsbury’s support.

“As a small school one of the difficulties we face is not have many networks of support. For Sainsbury’s to take us on is brilliant.

“We are really keen to promote the profile of our pupils in the community. The store will give us this opportunity. It will be our extended family.”

The Albert Road store will kick-off its fundraising efforts by holding a car boot sale on Sunday July 26 in its lower car park. Funds raised will go directly to Breakspeare School.

Store manager David Dawson said, ”We are really pleased and excited to support Breakspeare.

“The hard work starts now, but I can definitely see our store building a strong relationship with the school and making a difference to their work.”
