An art gallery has adopted the "iconic" name of a newsagents that stood for more than 80 years in Kings Langley high street.

Montague's Gallery has replaced the newsagents of the same name, which closed down in January.

At the time, former shop manager John Paddon said the decision to shut his shop came with a "heavy heart" because "I have been here for so long I have become part of the community".

The listed building, which reopened ten days ago, has since been refurbished to showcase artwork from artists as far off as Croatia, although the best selling works are those of local artists.

Gallery owner Michael Green said the decision to name it Montague's came from the newsagents' "outstanding reputation" and the fond memories villagers have of the shop.

He said: "People come in and they have a look round and they are always amazed at what we've done. They can't believe how big it is now the magazine and card racks are gone."
