Three superheroes were seen dashing through the Hertfordshire countryside as they raced to complete a charity bike ride.

Batgirl, Wonderwoman and Supergirl cycled 50 miles in one day as part of the third annual cycle ride challenge for leading spinal injury charity Aspire.

The women, also known as, Beth Malin, 23, from Watford, Rosie Williams, 26, from Harrow, Claire Barrett, 24, from Stanmore, all work at the Aspire National Training Centre in Stanmore.

Aspire's National Centre Manager, Rosie Williams said: "We had such a great day. Dressing up as superheroes seemed a good idea at the time, little did we know how uncomfortable and hot the costume would be.

"After about 30 miles we started to struggle; in the end it was the encouragement from all the other cyclists and the crowd that powered us to victory."

They, and the 50 other cyclying enthusiasts all completed the race and it's hoped they will raise over £15,000.

The ride on Sunday, July 12, consisted of two routes; there was a gentle ride of under 30 miles and a more challenging route of just under 50 miles.

Both routes started and finished at the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital in Stanmore, the home of Aspire.
